If you want to get your new franchise off to a great start, you need to get each and every day off to a great start as well. That’s because your morning routine sets the tone for the entire day and, ultimately, for your success. So how can you make the most of your mornings? Here are five productivity tips worth considering from our successful franchisees:
Wake Up Early
According to a study by the Harvard Business Review, people who wake up early and get more done in the morning are more likely to have successful careers. Getting up a little bit earlier will allow you to get a lot more done, as you can take a more proactive approach to your business and plan ahead for the day instead of reacting to things as they arise.
Experts recommend the average adult needs 7½-8 hours of sleep every night. So, to compensate for your new morning schedule, you’ll need to adjust your evening schedule as well. Get to bed as early as possible and keep the midnight shifts to a minimum.
Plan And Prioritize
As a business owner, you’ll have a lot of responsibilities on your plate. Unfortunately, you’ll have limited time on your hands. Keep yourself and your franchise on track every day by writing a to-do list that you can refer to — and adhere to — throughout the day. Be sure to put the most important tasks and projects at the top of the list; getting the big things out of the way early can relieve a lot of stress later on in the day.
A great way to add more time to your mornings is to prepare your to-do lists in advance at night. This way, when you wake up, you can review the list and get to work without delay.
Eat A Healthy Breakfast
If your morning meal consists of a cup of coffee and whatever you can grab from the vending machine, then you are not getting your day off to a healthy start.
Since you will be waking up early, take advantage of the extra time to eat right. A bowl of fruit, hot oatmeal, or scrambled eggs with veggies all make great breakfast options. If you are still pressed for time, try some nonfat Greek yogurt — it’s high in protein to keep you fueled and focused and the only prep required is opening a lid.
Call A Loved One
There’s no better way to remind yourself of why you are working so hard than to speak with the people you are working so hard for. Taking a five minute break to call someone you care about can give you a little extra motivation in the morning.
Keeping in touch doesn’t just benefit you as a business owner. In fact, keeping lines of communication open is one of the best ways to make the transition to franchise owner easier for your family members.
Turn Commuting Time Into Productive Time
Hopefully, by getting up early you can beat the morning rush. But if you still find yourself stuck in the car or on the train, don’t let that be an excuse for allowing your productivity to get stuck in the mud.
Carpool with a co-worker and hold your meetings on the way to the office; read the local newspaper or listen to the local broadcast to stay plugged in to what’s happening in your neighborhood; or record notes and reminders for yourself using a tape recorder or an app like Evernote.
Fortunately, many of our successful franchisees work in their neighborhoods, so their commuting time is kept to a minimum. We also provide generous territorial exclusivity to allow our franchisees to expand their local footprint without extending their commutes too far from home.
